Well, I guess they really never thought the Zune 30 to last as long as it did (or someone really messed up when coding the clock driver - FIRED!). But the ZuneInsider has twittered a promise that the issue experienced by Zune 30 owners on Dec 31st, 2008 will never happen again.
"we will update the firmware before 2012"
Let's hope so! That would regally suck if they don't! |

Well this isn't officially official, but at least it is for my Zune! It's about 3:40am eastern time, and when I tried this it was 3am and it worked! I have now updated my Zune and it's working perfectly (save for the same HDD issue it's had since February 2007). Please try your Zune out as well. |

The "Zunepocalypse" has been resolved and here's what you need to do: nothing. That's right! According to ZuneInsider's Twitter the problem was a "bug in the driver that controls the internal clock." Apparently the internal clock doesn't like leap years, and to it, today doesn't even exist. ZuneInsider's blog is reporting that you should wait until 2009 (don't worry it's at shortest six hours away), it's not sure what time tomorrow, but most are saying 12 noon GMT; it could also correlate to the time you set it to, no one knows for sure. The issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009. We expect the internal clock on the Zune 30GB devices will automatically reset tomorrow (noon, GMT). By tomorrow you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before the unit can restart successfully then simply ensure that your device is recharged, then turn it back on. If you’re a Zune Pass subscriber, you may need to sync your device with your PC to refresh the rights to the subscription content you have downloaded to your device. You can also see some Q and A as to why this happened on the ZuneInsider blog, if you so desire. I wish everyone luck with Zune 30s (myself included) and hope you have a happy and safe beginning of 2009. My solution is: have fun and forget about this for the next 12 hours or so.
