1,000 apps in the Windows Phone Marketplace

Android isn’t the only one with good news today–the mobile operating system hit 100,000 apps in its Marketplace earlier today–because Microsoft also has something to celebrate: the Windows Phone Applications Marketplace has reached a major milestone. One thousand applications!

The 1,000 apps number comes just a few short weeks since the Marketplace launched on October 11th and just days since it officially launched on October 21st. Of course it’s not about quantity, it’s about quality.

Well, maybe just this once it’s about quantity.

UPDATE: Also, worth mentioning: Apple’s Apps Store has about 280,000 applications.

So in about a week WP7 has WAAAAYYY more apps than what the zHD has managed in about a year? WTF!? those apps should be ported or something

Think it really is Quality over quantity. The whole focus of WP7 is on ‘glance and go’, by design you dont have trawl through pages of free apps that you downloaded once out of boredom, to find what you’re looking for (Windows Phone 7 reviews).

I think that MS will have fewer apps, as with WP7 you dont really want them – unless they are actually going to do something useful. If you want to while away the time you can get a decent xBox game – and won’t really see the appeal of a ‘free app’ anymore, IMO.
