Microsoft today unveiled the new Annual Zune Pass, previously priced at $179.88 USD which was the cost of a one month pass times twelve. Now, however, the software giant is offering an incentive to be locked into the Zune Pass service for an entire year–a discount of two months, or about 17% in savings in addition to keeping 10 songs each month. The Annual Zune Pass is now priced at $149.90.
In perspective: The roughly $150/year pass is really about $30 for rental-only, as you get to download and keep 10 songs each month. 10 songs a month for 12 months is 120 songs at about $1 each equals $120. $150-$120=$30! And that’s a conservative number considering many songs in the Zune Marketplace cost about $1.29.
It’s no doubt Microsoft wants to do all it can to sell Windows Phone 7 in a big way. The new Annual Zune Pass is available in the US, the UK, Spain, and Italy for now.
