Happy first birthday, Windows 7 – “the fastest-selling OS in history!”

One year ago today, Windows 7 went retail. And like any overzealous and proud parent, Microsoft is making us aware of the operating system’s accomplishments.

Starting with the very shocking 240 million licenses sold statistic. According to the Windows Team Blog, Microsoft’s Windows 7 is the fastest-selling operating system in history. And not only that, but it seems to have even masked Vista to most, if not all, consumers especially in customer satisfaction.

Over the last year, we saw that customer satisfaction for Microsoft had outpaced Apple in February and in May the American Customer Satisfaction Index report showed a jump in customer satisfaction for Microsoft in 2010 over the previous year. Both of these attribute Windows 7 as the key factor for improved customer satisfaction for Microsoft. Customers are very happy with Windows 7.

93% of new computers were running Windows 7 as of September, a number surely to increase since Microsoft has stopped Windows XP from running on newly sold PCs. What a year!
