This is the seventh and last part in our seven-week series of 7for7, seven reasons to wait for Windows Phone 7 debuting later this Fall.
Before we begin with the number one reason to wait for Windows Phone 7 (and by the looks of it, you won’t have to wait much longer!) I would like to say thank you for following the mini-column. Not many followed it, but the few that did enjoyed it and I’m glad it sparked some discussion and allowed some to learn something new about Microsoft’s latest offering. Hopefully, in the future, we can inspire a variety of columns and allow for much more opinionated articles to be available.

Phones can have all the features in the world and then some but if it’s packaged in an ugly little wrapper, then what’s the point? It’s probably no secret that previous versions of Windows Mobile weren’t exactly the prettiest-looking to critics and users, alike. But it seems that Microsoft has finally garnered Windows Phone 7 out of ugly duckling territory–and everyone seems to agree. Including us.
“Windows Phone 7 is flat out on another aesthetic level.”

When the Zune HD was announced and released about a year ago, we couldn’t encounter even one person that just didn’t love its look and feel. And when Microsoft decided to transfer over that Metro UI to WP7, the feeling once again was unanimous: everyone loves it! It seems that it was a definite step up over Windows Mobile 6. I mean, does it even compare?
Sadly, there’s not much factual evidence we can give on the beauty of a user interface or its design… that’s a pretty subjective conclusion that each person makes on their own. We can, however, point you in the direction of a few galleries so that you can make that decision on your own. Like Gizmodo’s posted in the Summer, or ZDNet’s gallery of Windows Phone 7′s technical preview.
Of course there are so many other reasons to love Windows Phone 7 (in fact, I believe we gave you six others before this one) but the fact of the matter is that no one wants to look at something that’s ugly. We like to think that a black background with a ton of docile apps is a little… staid and, excuse our Valley Girl here, so 2007. And let’s not even get into they grey and yellow of another certain mobile OS. Here at Zunited, we’re all about tiles!
Well for the time being. And they’re customizable tiles at that. The truth is that Windows Phone 7′s design, UI, and look and feel are all very simplistic and easy to use. We doubt we’ll have any trouble being able to use it as soon as we pick it up and try it for ourselves. And that’s the golden goose in making any type of operating system. Users have to be able to use it, it’s kind of in the root of the word, or else they’ll just give up entirely. This is something Microsoft has learned all too well and we believe it will pay off on October 11th.
Thanks for reading our 7-week column. And remember: Windows Phone 7 event this October 11th, stay with Zunited for the latest news!
