Microsoft and Nokia: it’s a done deal

Today, after announcing the strategic alliance, Microsoft and Nokia have signed the definitive agreement.

In summmary the agreement states that:

  • Nokia will deliver mapping, navigation, and location services to the Windows Phone ecosystem.
  • Nokia will endorse the development of applications for Windows Phone by creating a Nokia branded store that will offer Windows Phone, and Symbian apps.
  • Nokia will use Bing search on all of its devices.
  • And Nokia will contribute with their expertise on operator billing. And will provide that option to all Windows Phone users in the future.

Microsoft is said to pay billions of dollars to Nokia, the money is expected to be used to cover the expenses Nokia will have by expanding their services to Windows Phone. So with this, the creation of the third ecosystem is imminent. Nokia is saying they’re expecting to release devices in 2012, but perhaps they’ll be able to release some in 2011.
