CNET has learned that Microsoft is in talks with major record companies on what could be a new music service. The new service is headed to Xbox,Windows, and Windows Phone.
It is still not completely clear what this new service will bring. Microsoft must be bringing something completely different to the table if it is making negotiations with record companies. Will it build upon the existing Zune Music Pass or become it’s own stand alone service? If it does become a new service expect it to replace Zune and have Xbox branding. The service itself will have the same existing features Zune currently holds like streaming and downloading music, along with other specifics that Microsoft has outlined. The service is still in it’s early stages of negotiation and is predicted to launch this year. Zune is expected to make its last rounds on the Windows 8 consumer preview.
What do you believe will happen to Zune? Do you think these negotiations are for Zune or for the rumored Xbox music service we have heard about before?
