The folks over at The Daily have discovered the existence of a Microsoft Office iPad app. The app is said to be completed and will soon be submitted to Apple for approval.
The app will enable you to create and edit Word,Excel, and PowerPoint files online and offline. A One Note app was already submitted to Apple in the past and this new Office app is supposed to have similar characteristics but with a splash of Metro. An Office app for Android is not in the works. No word yet on the pricing, or if this Office is a port of the expected Windows 8 Office.
This is not the first time Microsoft has submitted it’s own apps to Apple. Huge exclusives have arrived on Apples App Store like Xbox, Kinectamals, Bing, and others. In fact, Excel original debuted on an Apple computer. Do you believe Microsoft should continue handing out their apps to Apple? Will this Office App blow all other document related apps out of the water?
Update 1: It looks like there might not be a iPad Office app after all. MSFTnews, the official twitter account for Microsoft’s Corporate communications had this to say about the daily
@MSFTnews: Great respect for The Daily but regrettably someone is giving them bad info, and that’ll be clear in the “coming weeks.”
This just might be cleared up by the time of the Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
Update 2: The Daily has now gone publicly on Twitter, defending its story about the iPad recieveing a Office app. Peter Ha The Daily’s tech and apps editor has posted a few Tweets defending his stance on there being a iPad app.
