AT&T giving Xbox Uverse customers a year of Xbox Live

When Microsoft announced their many Xbox Live TV partners the other day, AT&T’s Uverse was one of them. Xbox has had the Uverse service for quite some time now, and with the new Xbox Live TV program the Uverse features will be jumping up to Gold only. Since the service will require a Gold subscription when Live TV launches with the new dashboard for the Xbox 360, anyone who is a subscriber of the current Xbox Uverse program, will be getting a $60 credit from AT&T in hopes they go out and buy a Gold Subscription for a year to continue using their service through Xbox.

Happy 2nd Birthday Zune HD!

It seems that is was just yesterday, when we all were jumping around internet forums, with joy and glee, the Zune HD had just been released. Now 2 years have passed and it comes to that time again where we look back to when we had no touchscreen Zune, no PGR, and we did not have our pretty OLED screens. Time has passed, we have gotten updates, Smart DJ and apps since then. With the 2 year mark hit, I would also like to personally thank Dave McLauchlan (@DaveMacMS on Twitter) for being here with the help and support he has provided the community with. So now, let’s all remember and continue to enjoy what Zune has become and hope there is at least a new Zunited podcast sometime soon ;)

Xbox.com Offering Tinker for free, courtesy of Games For Windows Promotion

When Games For Windows merged with Xbox.com promotions went up. The first was offering free 400 Microsoft Points to the first 2500 people to make a purchase on the newly merged site, and now the offering of a free game download. You can snag yourself a copy of Tinker here: Tinker. Grab it before the promotion ends, if it ever does.

Update: Turns out, Tinker has been free for quite some time now, aside from that, it is still free, and you should pick up your copy.

[UPDATE] Zune HD gets a Firmware update, leaves questions

This may come to a surprise, but the Zune HD has recently been given a firmware update, upgrading from 4.5(109) to 4.5(114), then minor changes suggest just small bug fixes, but we really don’t know what it does. So, go plug in your precious Zune HD, update your firmware, and let us know if you see any changes.

Update: Dave McLauchlan, has tweeted what the update actually does, it fixes security issues. You can read about what was fixed and the problem here.

Zune Originals silently shuts down

Any Zune fan knows what Zune Originals is, it was a place where you could customize your Zune with engravings, pictures, styles, and colors. It was significant because the Zunes in retail stores were more expensive, and less creative. Many speculation can lead to why Zune Originals shut down, but the one topic can be focused on the most, the death of the Zune HD. Rumors have been flying around about the Zune HDs death, but the message left on Zune Originals almost clarifies the Zune hardware is being discontinued. “See how Windows Phone isn’t just a phone, it’s also a great Zune music and video player”. It seems like just yesterday rumors were flying around about a Zune HD2, while now rumors will start to fly around on how Microsoft is finally bringing an end to the Zune hardware. What are your thoughts, are they killing off the Zune hardware, yes or no? Leave a comment on what you think.

Zune HD, now with Note taking and more apps.

Remember the last time the Zune HD got apps? Me neither, but that seems to be over. As of today, the Zune HD welcomes a few more apps into its family.

Notes

Finally, right? We can take proper notes on our Zune HD. The Notes app provides the interface we all know and love, along with useful features. In the notes app you can, take notes(obviously), create a list of notes, and that is about it. That may be all, but it gets the job done, and it actually has helped me quite a few times. You change the text size, sort your notes, and search your notes. Since the app is now released, I can come out and say I have tested this app for Microsoft along with a few others released, giving the fact that some of these are not just first impressions.

Level

Level, another app I tested inside the program does exactlywhat you expect it to do. Level stuff. Don’t worry though, it also has some other features that just leveling, it also gives you specific degrees, and you can save a set and compare two sets, side by side.

Fan Prediction

What is Fan Prediction? Well it is essentially the app to predict the outcome of your favorite sports teams. You find your team, and predict the outcome of the games. From what it looks like, the app also averages the predicted score of all the others using the app, along with a leaderboards of who had the best predictions. So far the only sports available for the app, is Pro football, which has yet to begin, leaving the app at a sort of useless state until the season begins. Will it be useful? Yes it will, and I am sure many will use it when the Zune Nation Fantasy Football begins again.

Echoes

To some, this game may seem familiar. Why? Because this is not the games first debut into the world. Echoes developed by Halfbrick, the creators behind Fruit Ninja has found its way on the ZuneHD. The game has also been seen on the Xbox Live Indie games marketplace, and as a PSP Mini. Echoes is a top-down style game where you play as a women who is collecting crystals, every time you collect one, an echo appears. An echo is essentially your past self that follows your steps before the crystal you just collected. This is the first Zune app to use an on-screen analog stick, which works out well, sometimes. There are multiple levels, varying in various planets, finish all the levels in the planet to unlock the next. This game is a great way to past time, and very addicting.

3D Picture Puzzle

Like puzzle games? Like a twist with your puzzle game? Well, this games has your problems solved. In 3D Picture Puzzle you try and finish the picture while trying to keep the other side in order as well. 3D Picture Puzzle offers a nice twist to picture-puzzle games, and is a nice addition to the ZuneHD app collection.

Bees

Developed by Babaroga the minds behind games such as Space Battle, Bees is a strategy game where you control a bee, trying to collect pollen and make honey. Tell your bee where to go, collect pollen, and go back to the base. Once you have enough pollen, you can convert it into a jar of honey, giving you more points.

Reversi

The classic game of Reversi has made its way to the ZuneHD, and it was developed by 2Playmobile, who previously brought us Penalty Soccer. This adaptation of the classic game is more than just a simple port, but it brings along the standard of AI difficulty, available moves, and different skins.

Run And Jump

Run and Jump is a classic platformer game. You play as a dude with glasses who is trying to collect coins and avoid obstacles. Actually it is an old school, fast-paced platformer. The objective is to collect coins and finish the level. In my opinion this is one of the, if not best games available on the ZuneHD. In my time of playing it is highly addicting and the sounds are pretty cool too. In run and jump you are going by at a paced speed, you have to tap the screen in order to accomplish objectives such as hit a boost, crouch, or slow down. Coins do matter. The more coins you collect, the more levels are unlocked. There are over a hundred levels to keep you playing, and the puzzles are also well done.

Supernova

Supernova is a chain-reaction game where with the tap of a finger, you create a chain reaction of explosions. The objective is to to meet the goal provided of the number of reactions created. Each level you get one tap, and the requirements and stars lower. For example, one level you have to blow up 55, with only 60 available, as in another, you have to blow up 25 with 35 available. There are different difficulties to keep you playing until you finish all.

App Updates

Some other ZuneHD apps got updates as well, Windows Live Messenger, Twitter, and Solitaire. The update to Twitter is supposed to fix many errors people have encountered such as not being able to tweet. The solitaire update is unknown, but hopefully it made decks you can finish more common. The WLM update is also probably there to fix some issues with the app.
