White Lumia 900s Out in the Wild

It seems some AT&T stores are jumping the gun, or being rather festive. There have been reports, and pictures as shown above, that some lucky customers have been able to purchase the fabled white Nokia Lumia 900 earlier than the anticipated release date. Scheduled to be available to the public starting April 22nd (that’s tomorrow folks) some stores have bucked that release date and released the “Storm Trooper Lumia” to the masses.

According to some sources, the device can be made available earlier than expected at the discretion of stores, so not all AT&T stores will be selling it early, just those that chose to release it early. If you’ve been waiting for this particular, shiny, reflective model, now is the time to act and see if your local AT&T store is gracious enough to have an early release day.

Happy hunting.

App Showcase: Multiply Me

I hate math. So do a lot of you out there as well. One of the most annoying subjects ever created (speaking personally here, no disrespect to physicists out there) has been made fun by tilebitstudio. The game is a simple multiplying game. No thrills here, just plain ol’ multiplying. It might seem droll, but adding a simple timer to the proceedings and you’ll want to best your previous score every time you step up to take the challenge. Given a thirty second timer, you’ll need to calculate the random multiplication problems as fast as you can to move on to the next problem. Do these enough correctly and you’ll amass a point total that will place you on the online leaderboards.

The game has two options of gameplay. A beginner that puts single digit numbers to multiply (4×3, 7×6, 9×7, etc.) or a more advance version that gives you double digit numbers to multiply (62×7, 21×9). It’s a simple set up, but it’s made taxing by the natural difficulty of quickly multiplying in your head. The game doesn’t penalize you for getting a wrong answer, and it wont move to the next problem until you figure out the current one. The presentation makes it easy to input the numbers and it has its own certain charm and style.

The leaderboards, too, will make you want to keep going. It will tell you your place in the world and how many people are actually above you, besting you, and those that are lagging behind you. Getting that one extra correct answer to give you a higher total is always worth the extra effort. Moving you closer to number is motivation enough to do so. The game comes in two flavors, ad supported and a $.99 version without the ads.

Give this little game a try. For those of us that would like to dust off our multiplication tables in our heads, or just give our brains a little challenge to fire up some neurons, MultiplyMe is a fun distraction worth taking some much needed math problems.

Draw Something Comes to Windows Phone in the form of Draw and Guess

The Windows Phone marketplace has just received an app similar to Draw Something. Although some of you might be excited to see this app on the marketplace, keep in mind this app has just released and is not as nearly polished as other apps. A quick look at the reviews might turn you away, but in time it might improve and satisfy your drawing needs. The name of the game is Draw and Guess and you will find the app here.

The Marketplace has been expanding rapidly in the last few month and has already crossed 80,000 apps. We should start seeing even more apps take the place of the popular ones from other platforms like iOS and Android. It also helps the marketplace that Microsoft has put away a couple of million into courting devs to the platform.

Rumor: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 reveal coming May 2nd.

Halo and Call of Duty may be heading for the biggest first person shooter showdown this holiday season, as it will be the first time the two series release new installments within the same month.

Are you looking for more details on this year’s Call of Duty game? Well, it will be made by Treyarch and has been speculated to be a sequel to 2010′s Black Ops. I’m not exactly reaching when I say it will probably release around the second week of November.

It turns out that we won’t have to wait much longer for details on the next Call of Duty game. This poster is supposedly making the rounds at retailers. The poster seems to be about a Call of Duty game by Treyarch. It’s easy to assume it will be Black Ops 2 since Activision already has a website for Black Ops 2 waiting.

Amazon listed Black Ops 2 a few months ago. You can see where this is all going.

On May 2nd, we should get more details on the next installment in the Call of Duty series. Will it release on election day like Halo 4? Will any self respecting gamer survive a seven day period where a brand new Halo and Call of Duty release? Let us know if you’re looking forward to the next COD game in the comments!

Halo 4 releasing on election day, November 6th.

One heck of a release date, Microsoft has confirmed that Halo 4 will be available in stores on November 6th, 2012. The release date was revealed with help of Conan O’Brien.

Conan O’Brien may be joking when he says he will be in Halo 4, but we can only hope he makes it in somehow.

Footage of Halo 4 is shown, demonstrating the battle rifle and how bad Andy Richter is at playing it. We can only wonder what silly gamertag Richter would come up with if he has an Xbox Live account.

Halo 4 will feature a brand new co-op multiplayer mode called Infinity.Fire Fight mode is gone, but Infinity sounds like it will be amazing.

Are you looking forward to Halo 4? Will your purchase depend on whether Conan O’Brien makes into the final game?

Rumor: Next Xbox to have 16-core CPU?

There are a lot of rumors about the next generation Xbox console. Some say it will ship with an ARM processor, others say it won’t play used games. Some of these will end up being true while others will go down in gaming infamy as being silly speculation.

One of the latest rumors is that the next generation Xbox will boast an impressive 16-core CPU. Some say this will be needed because the next generation version of Kinect will eat up those cores to perform tasks like finger tracking. It seems plausible that a processor with a lot of cores would help Kinect but this rumor is very far fetched.

16-core CPU’s are a rarity even in the PC community. AMD released the first 16-core CPU for businesses late last year. While I expect Microsoft to make the next generation Xbox more powerful than the Xbox 360 currently is, I think this is overkill.

If you can’t help but roll your eyes

Nokia Russia ads for Lumia are Viral on Youtube

Ads have been Microsoft’s Achilles’ heel ever since the Zune days and into the Windows Phone era. Luckily for Microsoft Nokia knows how to advertise their products. Nokia Russia has a batch of videos on Youtube that have just hit 1 million views. Although the ads hardly show off the phone the amount of exposure is far better than anything Microsoft has accomplished since the beginning of Windows Phone. The campaign is paying off seeing as how the Lumia 900 recently controlled the number 1 spot on Amazons best sellers list. It should also be noted that Windows Phone devices are the top rated phones on Amazon holding in the top 5 with phones such as the Lumia 900(black and cyan), HTC Trophy, HTC Titan, and Samsung Focus S. Looks like Windows Phone is finally picking up some steam. What do you think of the ads? Is it a hit or a miss?

Bing Maps gets a Huge Update

Bing has announced several new features for its Bing Maps which should be live now.

The first of the new improvements is easier use of the venue maps. Venue maps allow you to see locations inside of businesses a quick example would be having the ability to see stores inside of a mall . This feature has been present to Windows Phone users and Bing Maps users for quite sometime but the improvements should allow people to discover it easier. All you have to do on Bing Maps in zoom in to a mall location or airport and it should show you stores within the location.

Only initially available in: United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and France.

Another feature for Bing Maps comes in the form of discovery. You can now zoom in on any city and see popular stores, tourist attractions., museums and many more locations. Those who are new to cities will find this really handy. Try using on your town you might find something you never knew. Clicking on the local of your choice will bring up more information.

Only initially available in: United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, and Germany

Last but not least Bing Maps now has 3d rendering of buildings. Just use the Bing Maps on a Metropolitan are and it should show a 3d rendered building. The silhouettes of the buildings should be the same as the one it is portraying meaning it should be fairly accurate to the building in real life. A quick mention should also be given to the new improvement in Zoom for the maps. Just click on a headline on the map like the city name or the name of a park. They serve as shortcuts to reach the location you are seeking.

The Zoom in feature should be available in all markets except Japan. The 3d maps are only supported in the United States and select cities in the United Kingdom, Canada and France.

Seeing as how some of these features are already available on Windows Phone don’t be surprised to see 3d maps come to the mobile space soon.
